The Weekend Facelift, the S Lift, the Lifestyle Lift®, the J Lift, the Thread Lift, the Feather Lift…there is no shortage of “new” cosmetic surgery procedures promising no or minimal down time or the ability to return to work the same day. We would just pass to you the same advice we’re sure your father and mother did, “If it seems too good to be true… indeed it probably is.”
In fact, many of these “new” procedures are not new at all, but instead are returning to the way facelifts were done early last century combined with 21st century marketing. An example of this is having just skin excised from around the ear under local anesthesia, or maybe a few sutures are used to tighten the deeper tissues and then stitched closed. In our experience, procedures performed like this have little down time, however, one may not get much of a result and the result one does get may not last very long. Procedures that rely solely on deep stitches can be complicated by visible irregularities and sutures, broken stitches, or lack of the desired result because they didn’t address the skin excess. These have been the experience of many patients who have come to us unhappy with the results of their facial procedures done elsewhere. We also hear from many of these patients that the recovery was not as easy as advertised either with prolonged bruising and swelling. We have been to the websites of some of those that tout these procedures and see some good results and some results where we have been hard pressed to tell which photo is the before and which is the after. Often, pictures are taken at different angles and from different distances, frowning before and smiling after, and a number of other tricks of photography. Additionally, one needs to be aware that sometimes the patients have had some other procedures performed which may not be listed, or listed as “optional procedures included.” There are occasionally patients who might benefit from this minimalist approach - those with very early aging and very little skin looseness. Unfortunately, most of us need more than this minimal improvement and we have yet to find that magic wand that lets us get major improvements with minimal effort. Given the right patient, it is possible to get a good result with the surgery done under just local anesthesia and we have done just that many times, but getting the numbing injections can be painful, there is a limit to how much local anesthesia you can get at one time, and not every patient’s anatomy is amenable to these more limited procedures.
We are dedicated to doing the least invasive and simplest procedure available to do the job and do it well – with the key to this being do the job well. Enhancement Surgery
If you have been considering breast enhancement surgery such as a breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction, selecting an appropriate-fitting bra is a very important part of your recovery. Often times, our patients are excited with their new curves and will purchase pretty bras or bras that offer little or no support. Or perhaps they feel that they may not need to wear a bra now that their breasts are perkier or fuller.
It is vital in your recovery and long-term use that you select bras that offer the right support specifically for you. There is no such thing as the perfect bra that fits every patient after surgery.
